Osteopathic Medicine Services
Osteopathic Medicine, also referred to as Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, is a hands-on, minimally invasive treatment method that applies gentle pressure, stretching and active resistance to the body’s muscles, joints and soft tissue. This holistic approach is designed to eliminate impediments and kick-start the body’s natural healing process to address chronic pain. ECHN’s team of board-certified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DO’s) can treat a wide variety of patients of any age – from newborns to older adults – who suffer from chronic pain or discomfort resulting from:
- Arthritis (both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid)
- Childhood health problems such as colic, difficulty feeding, reflux and recurrent ear infections
- Chronic neck pain
- Fibromyalgia
- Headaches and migraines
- Joint pain
- Numbness and tingling (carpal tunnel syndrome, disc injuries, sciatica, thoracic outlet syndrome and Reynaud’s syndrome)
- Pain resulting from injuries and accidents
- Pregnancy related ailments, such as lower back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, round ligament pain, headaches, nausea and vomiting
- Vertigo
Our Team
Doctor’s of Osteopathic Medicine, (D.O.) represents one of the two types of fully licensed physicians in the United States. Both MDs and DOs attend medical school, attain board certification, and have equal rights to practice medicine, prescribe medications, order tests, and perform surgeries. DOs receive additional training in anatomy and learn Osteopathic Manipulation Treatment (OMT).
What to Expect
During your first visit, a detailed history is obtained and a physical exam is performed. Your doctor will then use a highly sensitive method of feeling with their fingers or hands to diagnose problems in individual muscles, bones, soft tissues and nerves. After a diagnosis is made, your doctor will work with you to develop a customized treatment plan, which can begin immediately.
