Sleep Disorders Center

Sleep is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle. Do not let a sleep disorder rob you of the rest your body needs or lead you to develop more significant health concerns. Trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, loud snoring, or irregular sleep patterns can all be signs of a sleep disorder. ECHN sleep specialists can help diagnose the problem and create a personalized treatment plan.

Sleep Disorders Center at Manchester Memorial Hospital

ECHN’s Sleep Disorder Center is certified by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and is staffed with specially trained sleep specialists who use the latest techniques in sleep studies to evaluate, diagnose and treat sleep disorders and sleep-related conditions.

The Sleep Disorders Center can schedule sleep testing around YOUR sleep cycle. This means you do not have to follow a predetermined schedule. So, if you go to sleep at 7 p.m., 2 p.m. or even 10 a.m, your test will be scheduled to fit your sleep time. Testing according to your sleep/wake cycle will provide a more accurate diagnosis of any potential sleep disorder and will help make treatment more effective.

Sleep is a vital part of our healthy life and it is important to have a good night's sleep. Health risks associated with sleep problems include, but aren't limited to:

  • Heart attacks
  • Heart rhythm disturbances and congestive heart failure
  • Strokes
  • Increased blood sugar and Type 2 Diabetes risk
  • Impairs memory, reasoning and thinking
  • Increased risk of accidents, especially while driving

Sleep Studies

Sleep studies are an effective way for specialists to get valuable insight into a person’s sleep patterns and diagnose the cause of a sleep disorder. While some sleep studies can be conducted at home, the majority of patients are asked to sleep at ECHN's Sleep Disorder Center. ECHN’s Sleep Disorder Center provides private, home-like rooms for each patient that will provide comfort throughout the study.

Home Sleep Apnea Tests

These tests monitor breathing and oxygen levels and are designed to help diagnose obstructive sleep apnea. Home sleep apnea tests do not assess sleep, sleep disruptions or leg and arm movements.

The Epworth Sleepiness Scale

If you wonder whether or not you may have a sleep disorder, the Epworth Sleepiness Scale Questionnaire may help you decide if you should seek help for a sleep disorder.
